A kitchen renovation in Muthaiga should balance luxury, functionality, durability and property value. Homeowners in this part of Nairobi may want more than a basic cabinet replacement. They may be looking for a bespoke kitchen with premium cabinetry, stone countertops, integrated lighting, a kitchen island and high-quality hardware.
Start With the Kitchen Layout
Before choosing finishes, evaluate the layout.
Common options include:
- L-shaped kitchens
- U-shaped kitchens
- Galley kitchens
- Open-plan kitchens
- Island kitchens
Suimas’ published kitchen guidance indicates that larger U-shaped and island kitchens can require significantly higher budgets because they involve more cabinetry, countertops, lighting and services.
Custom Kitchen Cabinets
Cabinetry is often the largest component of a kitchen renovation. Muthaiga homeowners may consider marine board, MDF, premium boards, high-gloss finishes, natural timber accents and quality hardware. Storage should also be planned carefully, including pantry units, deep drawers, corner solutions, appliance housing and integrated waste storage.
Quartz, Granite and Premium Countertops
The countertop affects both appearance and longevity. Suimas’ 2026 kitchen guide lists indicative countertop prices ranging from standard laminate options through granite and premium quartz/natural stone. Quartz is particularly attractive for homeowners seeking a clean contemporary appearance with a consistent finish.
Kitchen Islands
A kitchen island can provide:
- Additional preparation space
- Extra storage
- Seating
- A social area
- A location for a sink or cooking zone
However, an island should only be installed when the kitchen has enough circulation space.
Flooring and Backsplash
Porcelain tiles are a popular premium choice for kitchen floors because they can combine durability with a wide selection of finishes. The backsplash can either complement the countertop or become a feature element. Large-format tiles, textured surfaces and carefully selected patterns can create a more sophisticated appearance.
Lighting and Ceiling
Lighting can dramatically change the kitchen.
A premium Muthaiga kitchen may combine:
- Recessed ceiling lights
- Under-cabinet LED strips
- Pendant lights
- Task lighting
- Feature lighting
Suimas also provides gypsum ceiling solutions with integrated LED lighting.
Sink, Tap and Plumbing
Do not overlook the sink and mixer.
Suimas’ published kitchen pricing guide gives indicative ranges of KES 15,000–35,000 for standard sink and tap combinations and KES 40,000–90,000 for premium granite composite sinks and designer taps.
Plumbing modifications should be included in the BOQ if the kitchen layout is changing.
How Much Does a Kitchen Renovation Cost in Muthaiga?
Muthaiga kitchens can range from moderate upgrades to luxury custom installations.
Suimas’ current kitchen guide places luxury kitchens in areas such as Karen, Runda and Muthaiga at approximately KES 2.5 million–8 million, depending on specification. A smaller renovation or makeover can cost considerably less if the existing layout and cabinetry are retained.
